Troop 269 Scout finishes

Eagle project at Ardmore

Ardmore Inc.'s Bridges program in Tallmadge benefited from the talent and commitment of Aurora Boy Scout Troop 269 member Colin Burns, a Hudson resident, who carried out an Eagle Scout service project there.

He organized 32 volunteers, who put in 114 hours on May 4 to plant 23, 7-foot arborvitae trees to screen the facility's chicken enclosure.

He was required to submit a proposal to both Ardmore Inc. and his Scout leadership, which included his own research of the need, costs involved, proper planting of arborvitae, planning of volunteers and tools required to complete the project.

Becky Susany, executive director of the Ardmore Foundation, owner of the property, said, "Colin's project helped us meet the requirements of a Tallmadge conditional zoning order. We are so grateful for his time and talent. He is a very special young man, who has made a real difference."

Burns received fundraising support from El Camino Restaurant in Aurora, which donated 20 percent of its proceeds from meals on April 30. The arborvitaes were provided at cost by Dave Thomas of R.G. Thomas Landscape & Design Inc. of Norton.

Burns is a seventh-grader at St. Patrick School in Kent. When asked why he chose Bridges as the recipient of his labor, he responded, "I'm excited to do this because I really believe in the good that is happening at the Bridges program. I care about these adults who need a safe, nice place to spend their time."

Bridges is a non-profit day program for adults with developmental disabilities and autism.
