Tallmadge -- The Ohio Department of Education has released the final, official results of its school report cards for the 2011-12 academic year, confirming its designation of the Tallmadge City Schools as "Excellent with Distinction."

The ODE released its preliminary results last fall, behind its usual schedule of August, because of the state auditor's investigation into student attendance data.

The state report cards document student achievement in standardized assessments by district and school building in each district.

This is the second time Tallmadge Schools has been ranked as "Excellent with Distinction," the highest of the six designations. Seven of Summit County's 17 districts were also awarded the rating.

Tallmadge was first rated "Excellent with Distinction" for the 2008-09 school year and the second-highest -- "Excellent" -- for the 2010-11 school year.

The latest report card shows the district earned a score of 104.1 on the Performance Index, which measures achievement and Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) performances in third through 10th grades based on the number of students at each performance level, according to the ODE. The index is a major component in calculating overall district ratings.

Superintendent Jeff Ferguson said last fall when the preliminary results were released the district's results in the Performance Index have been improving each year.

Tallmadge schools also has met each of the state's 26 performance indicators, which include proficiency levels in several state tests and other factors such as attendance and graduation rates.

The district snagged the highest score of "Above" in Value-Added Growth that indicates a district's progress with its students since the previous school year.

Adequate Yearly Progress, the category that measures achievement in student subgroups such as racial, ethnic and special-needs, was the only measurement that Tallmadge didn't meet or exceed. The district scored a "not met" in that category, meaning it didn't achieve expected growth.
