Stow-Munroe Falls High School Band Program was well represented at the Ohio Music Education Association Tune Up For Change Professional Development Convention held in Columbus February 7-9.

Two SMFHS Band members were selected to perform in the 90 piece Ohio Music Education Association All-State Band. Junior Victoria Lero and senior Kayla Andersen were selected from a pool of over 500 applications and audition recordings. Students were ask to prepare and record selections which were evaluated by music teachers from across the state. Victoria and Kayla were notified in the fall that they had been selected for the band. The OMEA All-State Band was under the direction of Craig Kirchoff. Kirchhoff is professor of conducting and director of university bands at the University of Minnesota where he conducts the Wind Ensemble. Prior to joining the University of Minnesota he was director of bands at Ohio State University. Mr. Kirchoff rehearsed the All-State band for over 20 hours from Thursday, February 7th until their concert at 2 pm on Saturday, February 9th. Both Victoria and Kayla have been members of the Stow-Munroe Falls Band program since 5th grade. Senior Kayla Anderson is a trumpeter and actively involved in Wind Ensemble and Jazz Bands. Victoria, a tenor saxophonist performs in the Wind Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, All School Music Pit Orchestra and Jazz Band 1. She was also selected to perform in the OBDC All Star Band and the BGSU All Star Bands.

SMFHS Band Director Brian Monroe was also selected to present a workshop "Percussion Giving You A Concussion, Let's Have an Interactive Percussion Discussion" giving band directors from across the state some strategies to develop musicianship in their percussionist. His workshop on Thursday was attended by over 120 music teachers.
