On Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. author, Robin Yocum, will lead a writing workshop at the Stow Munroe Falls Public Library on the importance of character in a novel. Characters keep a reader turning pages. Scene setting is important and plot is critical, but your characters must have depth and believability to connect with readers. Yocum will deliver a 90 minute seminar on character development. It will explore the genesis of character development and help you create characters that will drive your writing. In short, we'll give your characters, well, more character. Yocum will also be signing copies of his newest book The Essay.

Yocum is a former award-winning reporter with the Columbus Dispatch. Yocum won 30 local, state and national journalism awards in categories ranging from investigative reporting to feature writing. He spent 10 years in corporate public relations before starting his own company in 2001. For more information, contact the Learned Owl Book Shop at 330-653-2252.

Heart expert to lead workshop at Yoga Lounge

The Yoga Lounge, 89 First St., Suite 207 in Hudson, will host a workshop with special guest author Terry Gordon Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. The workshop is part of the Yoga Lounge's program to transform bodies and minds through 40 Days to Personal Revolution. The Yoga Lounge is hosting this innovative renewal process created by Baron Baptiste by incorporating "No Storm Lasts Forever" by Gordon as an example of healing through journaling.

"In No Storm Lasts Forever" Gordon teaches that experiences become calamities if we make the conscious decision to make tragedies out of them. Rather than lamenting adversities, we can choose to be grateful for them, embracing them as gifts from the Divine. Books will be available for sale at the workshop courtesy of the Learned Owl Book Shop.

Gordon, a Cleveland Clinic-trained cardiologist, practiced within mainstream medicine for more than two decades. Named the American Heart Association's National Physician of the Year in 2002, Gordon is nationally recognized in matters of the heart. As a motivational speaker, he has shared the stage with Dr. Wayne Dyer; as a musician, he is the co-host of Docs Who Rock, a United Way event. He is spearheading a national campaign called The Josh Miller HEARTS Act, which will place Automated External Defibrillators in every school in the country, protecting children from sudden cardiac arrest.

Admission to the workshop is $10. Sign up at the Yoga Lounge (330-653-3377) or the Learned Owl Book Shop (330-653-2252). Only floor seating is available and space is limited.
