Hudsonite wins COSE Volunteer Service Award

Dave Harman, the director of Sandler Training in Chagrin Falls and a resident of Hudson, claimed the Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE) 2012 Volunteer Service Award at the COSE Annual Meeting.

Harman has been associated with COSE for many years with both his training and consulting business and his farming venture. He has been a key leader and participant in COSE's advocacy work; is a member of the COSE Ambassador Program, including being recognized by his peers on the Ambassador Committee as the Most Involved Ambassador in 2012; serves as a COSE Leads Group co-leader; and was a workshop presenter at the 2012 Small Business Convention, according to a COSE spokesperson.

Harman has more than 30 years experience in sales and sales management with Fortune 500 companies, as well as small, family-owned organizations. After many years as a Sandler Training client in Chagrin Falls, he joined the Sandler team in 2003. Prior to Sandler Training, Harman held positions from sales to senior management with companies such as Conoco/Vista, Amresco, and Ohio Awning.

Harman is currently serving as a district commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America and has been involved with them for more than 15 years.

Meet presidents at Yours Truly Feb. 17

Yours Truly Restaurant, 36 S. Main St., in Hudson will host "Dinner with the Presidents" Feb. 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to commemorate the Presidents' Day holiday.

Professional portrayers of President and Mrs. James A. Garfield, President and Mrs. Abraham Lincoln, presidents Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, and George Washington, and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt will stroll through the restaurant entertaining and educating guests. Portrayers may vary.

Adults and children will be invited to play presidential trivia games to win prizes. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite president or First Lady.

Peninsula Library hosts retirement series

The Peninsula Library, 6105 Riverview Road in Peninsula, hosts The Thursday Retirement Planning Series in three sessions. Financial planning professionals James C. Sexton III and Alan Shall of Western Reserve Capital Management will lead these intensive one-hour classes.

Each class will share simple suggestions on what to do to get ready for retirement. The first session on March 14 is "Retirement Income Planning: Find Out How Much You Need" where they will take an in-depth look at some common and very costly mistakes retirees make with their investments. In the second session on March 21, "Your Retirement and Your RA: Avoiding Costly Mistakes While Keeping More of Your Retirement Money," they will discuss IRAs and the proper way to transfer 401(k)s, 403(b)s, how to deal with IRA pension rollovers and, the new ROTH rules. The final session on March 28, "Sound Investing for Retirees," will cover the need for a solid understanding of basic economic and investment concepts increases.
