Preservation guide being

assembled by city panel

At the Oct. 23 meeting of the city's landmark commission, adviser Ron Lowe outlined plans for a new preservation handbook.

It will include topics such as what projects require permits, how to prepare drawings for a permit, obtaining a certificate of appropriateness, general design guidelines, sources of potential funding for historic preservation, a map of the historic districts and duties of the landmark commission.

The panel needs a new member. Anyone interested should give their names to Lowe or members Jeff Clark or John Kudley, who will forward them to the clerk of Council.

It was noted a Geauga Lake historic area sign will include 150 words on each side. It will be placed at an entrance to the Geauga Lake neighborhood, with an exact location chosen after the verbiage is finalized.

The panel approved demolition of a detached garage and pool house at 289 S. Chillicothe Road owned by Marianne Paul, and three elevations for a new detached garage to be built there.

The front elevation must come back to the panel for approval because some details were omitted from the drawings presented to the panel.
