Stow resident Mary Landi was recognized by the Leave a Legacy Foundation of Summit, Portage and Medina Counties during its annual Jewels of our Communities Awards Ceremony July 19 at The Martin Center of the University of Akron.Landi, a member of Holy Family Parish, was honored for her generosity in planned gifting to a charity. Holy Family Director of Development Bonnie Wojno called Landi is a "jewel of the Holy Family community.""Mary was nominated to be honored by the 'Voices of Giving' because she and her late husband, Al, exemplify the spirit of true philanthropy and Christian stewardship," Wojno said. "Al remembered Holy Family Parish School in his will, and through his wishes, a scholarship has been set up in his memory for parishioners to attend Holy Family School. Mary, likewise, has remembered Holy Family in her estate plans."Landi said she was overwhelmed and pleased by the recognition."I wasn't expecting to be honored," she said. "This is just something we did. I watched my mother give and help others, and I have taught my children the same. It is our way of doing things.
