Reading and math tutoringBring children to Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Ave., for child-friendly tutoring, books and learning games. Here is an opportunity for children to sharpen or catch up on basic reading or math skills in a small group session. One-week sessions will be conducted by two certified teachers. The final session of tutoring is Aug. 13 to 17. For first-graders, math tutoring is 10 to 10:55 a.m. and reading tutoring is from 9 to 9:55 a.m. For second-graders, math tutoring is from 9 to 9:55 a.m. and reading tutoring is from 10 to 10:55 a.m. For third-graders, math tutoring is from noon to 12:55 p.m. and reading tutoring is from 11 to 11:55 a.m. For fourth-graders, math tutoring is from 11 to 11:55 a.m. and reading tutoring is from noon to 12:55 p.m. Dance feverA Dance Fever Open Dance will be at the Quirk Cultural Center Aug. 3. Looking for a chance to socialize with friends, meet new friends and enjoy great music while trying out dance moves? Come to a Friday ballroom dance night. Each evening starts with a dance lesson from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. with each month featuring a different dance. From 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., enjoy dancing to a variety of music from swing, waltz, cha-cha, Tango, line dances and more. No partner is needed, and all ages welcome. Ballroom dance lessonsThe Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department is offering the following ballroom dance lessons at the Quirk Cultural Center. All classes are four-week sessions with a new session beginning on Aug. 2 to 23. All ages welcome, singles and couples welcome. Registration is taken at the Parks and Recreation Office and at the Quirk Cultural Center. Classes are on Thursday nights and include:Beginners -- This class will cover dances such as waltz, foxtrot, swing, cha-cha, rhumba and more. Class is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.Intermediates -- This class will cover additional dances such as quickstep, samba, bolero and others. Classes are from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.Argentine Tango -- This is the original Tango, from Buenos Aires, and seen in the movies. Ages 7 to 10 will meet from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Ages 11 to 15 will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 40th Annual All Kids CarnivalThe Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department's 40th Annual All Kids Carnival will be Aug. 2, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Newberry School/Park. This annual event features pony rides, petting zoo, super slide, Jupiter Jump, speed pitch, balloon sculptures, clowns, face painting, carnival games, food, prizes, city-wide marble and pocket golf tournaments, home run derby, performances by the dance classes and the tot time participants. Youth creative campsThere are still classes at the Quirk Cultural Center to keep the kids busy during the last month of summer. The first one is pottery camp for ages 8 to 16 on Saturdays, Aug. 4 to 25. Ages 8 to 10 will meet from 10 to 11:45 a.m. while ages 11 to 16 meet from noon to 2 p.m. The students will create projects from start to finish using handbuilding and glazing techniques. The older class will learn some wheel work.The second session of art workshops begins Aug. 7. Ages 5 to 8 meet 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. while ages 9 to 12 meet 10:30 a.m. to noon. Both classes meet Aug. 7, 8 and 9.Finally a Youth Ceramics class will have a two day session Aug. 7 and 14. Ages 6 to 9 meet from 9 to 10:30 a.m. while ages 10 to 15 meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.Selling on eBayThe Parks and Recreation Department has opened another computer class to help get you up-to-date in the technology world of selling on the computer. This is an alternate choice instead of holding a garage sale. This course will take participants through every step including opening a seller account, a Paypal account, conducting effective product research and managing an eBay account. Students need to bring an item to class to create their first listing. Class is Aug. 8 and 15 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.Weekday adult fall softball leaguesThe Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department is offering weekday fall adult softball leagues. All leagues will play at the Water Works Softball Complex. The leagues offered this year are: Monday Coed Competitive League; Monday Coed Recreational League; Tuesday Coed League; Wednesday Coed League; Wednesday Women's League; Thursday Men's League; and Friday Men's League.All leagues are 18 and over and are double-header leagues.
