Record-Courier staff reportA 3-year-old Edinburg boy died June 14 at an Akron hospital of complications from a near-drowning incident Sunday at a Brimfield home.David D. Wilfong was at his grandmother's home on Duffield Road June 10 when he was discovered in a 4-foot deep above-ground swimming pool and nearly drowned.Brimfield Police Chief David Blough said the police got the call at 4:24 p.m. as the fire department was on the way to the call."Our unit got there just before the ambulance and found relatives doing resuscitation" on the boy, Blough said. The Brimfield Fire De-partment then took over the resuscitation effort and im-mediately transported the child to Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron, where he died just before 3 p.m. June 14.Blough said the incident is still being investigated by the Brimfield Police Department. "This is looking like a tragic accident," he said.Blough said there was a window of time where "the child was out of sight of adults for about five to 10 minutes."There were several adults at the home and they believed the boy was playing at a dirt pile. When they went to look for him, one adult saw him at the bottom of the pool."Blough cautioned parents about the dangerous mix of water and children."We just want to caution everybody," he said. "Children are precious and you've got to keep your eye on them around any kind of water, be it a swimming pool, a pond or a bathtub."
