Alaina Mayer is the Character Counts Student of the Month for May.

A second-grader at Woodland Elementary, Alaina was nominated by her parents, Kevin and Gina Mayer of Stow, for exemplifying the pillars of respect, responsibility, caring and citizenship.

"Earlier this month, Alaina donated 12 inches of her hair to Locks of Love," Gina Mayer wrote. "She was so proud to do this. Also in March, Alaina had her birthday party at the Akron Zoo and asked her friends to bring the money they would have spent on a birthday present. She donated the money to the zoo to help feed a bald eagle. Alaina loves animals, so when she came up with this idea, we were so proud of her."

The Character Counts Student of the Month is a regular feature of the Stow Sentry. To nominate a student from Stow or Munroe Falls, pick up a nomination form from any of the public schools, the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library or online at ccstudent.htm.
