Twinsburg Township -- Fiscal Officer Janice Glover filed a request for reconsideration with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, stating in an April 13 letter that the commission has "denied [her] unjustly once again" in its response to an employment discrimination charge against the township.
The request, received by the commission April 26, was in response to a May 10 determination by the commission to dismiss "with no probable cause" a charge of employment discrimination filed by Glover against the township in October 2006. OCRC spokesperson Johncie Kanney said that Glover was notified of the commission's determination before the decision officially was issued May 10.
"Why do I feel I am getting the brush off by you, who is suppose to help the worker?" Glover writes in her request for reconsideration.
Neither Glover nor her attorney, Avery Friedman, returned calls seeking comment.
Medina attorney John Latchney, who is representing the township in the OCRC matter, states in his response to Glover's request that the regional civil rights office "reached the correct conclusion in this matter" with its May 10 decision.
Glover filed the original employment discrimination charge in October 2006, alleging the township discriminated against her by proposing to reduce her duties and salary by 75 percent at an October 2006 Board of Trustees meeting.
As well, Glover claimed the township attempted to force her to give up her elected position as fiscal officer by proposing to hire a deputy fiscal officer. Many of the fiscal officer's duties are now being performed by Office Coordinator Anna Knoch, following Glover's January 2006 stroke.
Neither Glover's salary nor her duties have been reduced by Trustees, and the township has not hired a deputy fiscal officer.
According to a May 18 letter from the compliance department at the commission, the OCRC will notify both the township and Glover in writing if the previous finding is "reinstated, modified or changed." Kanney said the request will be addressed "as quickly as possible."
