The Aurora Chamber of Commerce is planning several business after hours parties on the patio this spring and summer. The first is May 17 at ThornCreek Winery & Gardens. Others scheduled so far are June 28 at the 1815 Tavern and July 26 at Mario's Cabin Restaurant.

The Chamber's May networking luncheon will be May 24 at 11:30 a.m. at the Bella Vita Event Center on Trails End.

A panel of workforce development professionals will speak. They include Brad Ehrhart of Portage Development Board, Helene Leightner of OhioMeansJobs, Michael Hinton of Maplewood Career Center and Gregory Farabee of Kent State University. Make reservations at www.allabout

Several area Chambers are joining together for a social networking event at the Akron RubberDucks game June 16 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $7 for Chamber members, and deadline for reservations is June 8. Call 330-253-5151 for details.

The Portage County Relay For Life is May 20 from 10 a.m. to midnight at Ravenna High Stadium on Route 44.


The Twinsburg Hilton Garden Inn was the venue for the Gourmet Matinee on the Road event April 27 hosted by the Aurora Blossom Friends of the Cleveland Orchestra.

The luncheon was attended by 70 guests. Brett Mitchell, the guest of honor, is associate conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra-Blossom Music Festival and on tour, and is music director of Cleveland Orchestra's Youth Orchestra.

Mitchell will conduct COYO in a concert May 12 at 8 p.m. at Severance Hall. The program includes the composers Tower, (Made in America) and Prokofiev, (Symphony No.5). On June 1-4, Mitchell will conduct "West Side Story" film and live orchestra at Severance Hall.

On Sept. 1-3, Mitchell will be at Blossom for movie night conducting "E.T. The Extra Terrestrial" with the orchestra, complete with ireworks. "E.T." will be shown in high definition on the big screen.

Opening night at Blossom is July 8. Gourmet matinees featuring Cleveland Orchestra musicians will be July 11 and Aug. 1 and 24. Lunch, wine and conversation with the musicians are include.


Elliott Nathaniel Yoder was born April 20 at University Hospitals-Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, weighing 9 pounds, 3 ounces. His parents are Benjamin and Jessica Yoder of Aurora. His maternal grandparents are James and Ruth Rex of Sagamore Hills and his paternal grandparents are Pete and Carol Yoder of Salinesville.


The Federated Democratic Women of Portage County present Taste of Italy on May 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Ravenna Elks Lodge.

The event will consist of food, spirits and a cash bar, 50/50 and basket raffle and dinner served by Guido's of Ravenna. Dinner will be served at 6 and the event's cost is $40 per person. RSVP by May 18.
