Sewers to gather

The Piecemakers will meet Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church to work on quilts and knit or crochet blankets and hats for the homeless, youths and babies. Bring a bag lunch if you plan to stay all day. For details, call Karen at 216-513-6444.

AUM youths party

A youth Christmas party will be Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at Aurora United Methodist Church. On Dec. 18, members will meet at the church at 3 p.m. to go caroling and then will return for fellowship, hot chocolate and cookies.

Hope program set

The children's Sunday school program will be presented Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church. Practice is Dec. 17 from 10 s.m. to noon, with a craft session and pizza lunch to follow.

Hope council's next meeting is Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. A congregational voters meeting will be Dec. 11, with the primary topic being the 2017 budget.

Anyone who ordered cookies from the Women of Hope can pick them up after worship Dec. 18. Cookie sales support Lutheran World Relief's personal care kit project. Women of Hope will pack and send the kits in January.

Monetary donations also are being accepted, with checks to be made out to Women of Hope.

Just before Thanksgiving, Hope members contributed canned goods, gravy, stuffing and cash for turkeys and pumpkin pies to give to 32 families totaling 146 people. Included were 300 pounds of potatoes.

An adult Bible study of the book of Isaiah continues on Sundays from 9 to 9:45 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

The next wine and word Bible study will be Jan. 10 at the Aurora Inn. The study starts at 6 p.m.

Becky's Book Club's annual adult Christmas party and book exchange is tonight (Dec. 7) at 6 at the Burntwood Tavern in Solon.

All attending should take a gently-used book wrapped in holiday paper for the exchange.

A Christmas Eve service will be Dec. 24 at 7:30 p.m. and a Christmas Day service will be at 10 a.m.

Concert dates set

The annual Christmas concert is planned at Parkside Church on Pettibone Road in Bainbridge on Dec. 8-11 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. Tickets are free but limited to four per person or eight per couple for each concert. They are available at the church bookstore or online.

Baptist luncheon

The next monthly luncheon at First Baptist in Aurora will be Dec. 11 after worship. The church will provide ham. Members can sign up to provide side dishes or other items.

There will be at least 127 participants in the Upward Basketball program this year. Volunteers are needed as referees, scoreboard operators and concession stand helpers. Contact Pastor Drew Carroll if interested.

The Friday evening adult life group meets every other Friday to study the book of 1 Peter.

An eight-week parenting life group meet Sundays at 6:30 p.m.. New family pastor Matthew Russell has started his duties.

Vespers planned

The Church in Aurora's annual Vespers musical service will be Dec. 11 at 5 p.m., with refreshments to follow in fellowship hall.

Gifts for the Caring Tree must be returned to the church by Dec. 11. The Women's Guild's Christmas luncheon will be Dec. 14 at 11:30 a.m. at Club Walden. Reservations are due by Dec. 11.

Emily Dorland will sing Christmas songs and Sally McGill will share a Christmas story.

Toddy's Christmas shoppe is open through Dec. 23 at the church.

The closing date for monetary donations for the staff Christmas gifts program is Dec. 12. Checks should be made out to the Church in Aurora.

The Aurora Food Pantry needs corn, stuffing mix, cranberry sauce and large cans of yams during December.

Holiday activities

A Christmas hymn sing will take place Dec. 11 at 3:30 p.m. at Aurora Mennonite Church, while the children's Christmas program will be Dec. 18.

The Giving Tree is set up in the fellowship hall, with gift requests from Safer Futures domestic violence shelter and the Streetsboro Christian Cupboard. Unwrapped gifts should be returned by Dec. 11. For details, contact Annette Balis.

The Mennonite Women's Sewing Organization will have a Christmas potluck lunch on Dec. 8 in the fellowship hall. It will start at noon. A group lunch out is planned after church Dec. 11.

Babies dedicated

A baby dedication parents meeting will be Dec. 18 at 10:45 a.m. at Christ Community Chapel in Aurora. Christmas Eve candlelight services will be Dec. 24 at 5:30 and 7 p.m. A Christmas Day celebration will be Dec. 25 at 11 a.m. The next baby dedication and baptism Sunday will be Jan. 1 at 9:30 a.m.

Hope sets events

A special holiday adult choir performance will take place Dec. 11 at the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services at Hope Community Church in Hudson. "Is It Worth the Cost?" is the message topic.

On Dec. 18, the worship message will be "The Mess in the Mirror." There will be three Christmas Eve services at the church at 3, 5 and 7 p.m., but no Christmas Day service.
