First Congregational Church promotes interfaith conversation
The Interfaith Relations Working Group of the First Congregational Church of Hudson will be hosting "Teatime for Peace: An Interfaith Dialogue" at the church on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m.
The evening will include presentations by Ahmad Deeb, Executive Director of the Islamic Society of Akron and Kent; Sarah Shendy, Trainer for the Ohio Police Academy, poet Fatima Shendy and musician Zach Friedhof, co-founder of the Akron Peace Project. However the main focus of the event is to facilitate round-table discussions among people who follow varying faith traditions in order to learn more from each other and to promote peace through honest, respectful dialogue.
"When we come together with mutual appreciation and respect for one another, we are able to practice our faith mandate to love our brothers and sisters as ourselves," said senior pastor Peter Wiley.
Teatime for Peace events started in Cleveland as a response to anti-Muslim rhetoric. The movement has grown to include events at Lyndhurst Community Presbyterian Church and the Islamic Society of Akron and Kent.
This event is co-sponsored by other local organizations: Akron Area Interfaith Council, Islamic Society of Akron and Kent, Richfield Interfaith Coalition, Temple Beth Shalom, Women's Interfaith Spiritual Heritage and the Zonta Club of Hudson.
