UMC readies for Lent

A Lenten Bible study will run Sundays from March 9 to April 13 at 2 p.m. at Aurora United Methodist Church. The study is titled "The 24 Hours That Changed the World."

The church will kick off the Lenten season tonight (March 5) with an Ash Wednesday service at 7 at Faith UMC in Twinsburg (2560 Post Road).

Family and/or personal Lenten devotionals can be found on the center table in the church's narthex.

Other coming events are: March 5 -- TOPS at 6 p.m.; March 9 -- Sunday school at 9:15 a.m., worship and junior church at 10:30, youth fellowship at noon, Girl Scouts at 4 p.m. and vacation Bible school planning session at 7:30; March 10 -- Girl Scouts service unit at 6 p.m.; March 11 -- Girls night out for ladies of the church at 7:30 p.m. at Mad Jack's Grill and praise team rehearsal at 7:30.

Lent kicks off at Hope

An Ash Wednesday service will be tonight (March 5) at 7:30 at Hope Lutheran Church, with holy communion and imposition of ashes. Weekly Lenten services will be Sundays at 5 p.m., followed by a light supper, and will run through April 6.

Retreat day at OLPH

A parish Lenten retreat day is planned March 8 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. . at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Deacon Greg Kandra will be facilitator. Mass will be at 4:30. Lunch will be served and child care will be available. For details, call 330-562-8519 or visit

A St. Patrick's Day dinner will be March 9 at 4 p.m. in the parish hall. Entertainment will be provided by Irish dancers.

Corned beef and cabbage, Irish soda bread, beverages and dessert are planned for $11 for adults and $9 for ages 9 to 12. There will be no ticket sales at the door. Volunteers are needed on the day of the event. Email if you can help.

Lenten soup suppers start March 12 and run on Wednesdays until April 2. They will start at 6 p.m., followed by 10-minute witnesses.

Parishioners are being called upon to contribute to the 2014 Bishop's Appeal. The parish's goal is $68,552.

A Mass and imposition of ashes will take place today (March 5) at 7 p.m. The parish pastoral council executive committee will meet at 5:30 p.m.

LOL plans Lent events

Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bainbridge Township will embark on a spiritual journey with Christ during Lent.

The church will host Ash Wednesday services today (March 5) at noon and 7:30 p.m., with communion and the imposition of ashes at each service.

Lenten programs will be offered Mondays, with a meal at 5:30 p.m. followed by small groups at 6:15 and a five-to-10-minute worship service.

Encore ladies to meet

Encore Ladies for those over 50 years old will meet March 12 at 1 p.m. at Christ Community Chapel-Aurora. The program is titled "Bound for Glory, with Pastor Joe Coffey speaking. RSVP by calling 330-650-9533 ext. 308, visiting or signing the sheet at the special events desk.

A new adult Bible fellowship class about fundamental Christian beliefs will begin March 16 at 11 a.m. and meet Sundays for six weeks.

The next Community Harvest collection will be March 16. Items can be placed in the grocery cart in the foyer.

Moms Together will gather March 20 at 9:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall to hear Barbara Hibschman give a personal testimony. Child care is free when participants register online.

The Audio Adrenaline, Kutless and Finding Favor concert will be March 20 at 7 p.m. at the Hudson campus. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door, and are available online at the address above.

Movie night at Baptist

My First School movie night will be March 7 at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Aurora. Volunteers are needed, and they can mark their connection cards if interested.

A church luncheon will be March after worship with a "New Orleans" theme. Participants are asked to take a dish inspired by New Orleans or Los Angeles. The family ministry pastor plan will be discussed.
