Book club will gather

Becky's Book Club at Hope Lutheran Church will meet Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at Reidun Livingston's home to discuss "The Light Between Oceans" by M.L. Stedman.

The Northeast Ohio Lutheran Women's Missionary League will have a prayer service Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church on Route 306 in Chesterland. A light lunch will follow.

Ash Wednesday begins March 5 and Hope's Sunday Lenten services begin March 9 and will continue for five Sundays, with worship from 5 to 5:30 p.m., a light meal at 5:30 and cleanup at 6:30. The Women of Hope will sponsor the first meal.

2 dinners set at OLPH

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church's volunteer appreciation dinner will be Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m., with a live and silent auction. Reservations are due by Feb. 17 at 330-562-8519 ext. 2.

Also, the church will have a St. Patrick's Day dinner March 9 at 4 p.m. Reservations are accepted with a paid table of eight. Volunteers are needed and should email

The Knights of Columbus Council will host a pancake breakfast after Feb. 16 Masses in the parish center.

The Souper Bowl of Caring recently raised $864 for the Center of Hope in Ravenna. A Red Cross blood drive will be Feb. 19 from 1 to 7 p.m. at the church. Austin Leo Frankino, son of Tyler and Jennifer, recently was baptized.

A high school ministry retreat will be March 1-2 at the White Pines Education Campus in Peninsula. Cost is $45 and applications are due today (Feb. 12).

A parish Lenten retreat day with Deacon Greg Kandra will be March 8 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lent soup suppers will take place on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. from March 12-April 2.

Other upcoming events are: Feb. 12 -- rehearsal for the passion play at 6:30 p.m.; Feb. 13 -- Spirited Seniors at 11:30 a.m. and charity/justice and Boy Scouts at 7; Feb. 14 -- youth ministry retreat meeting at 6 p.m.; Feb. 15 -- Bethlehem art sale after Mass; Feb. 16 -- no PSR, youth ministry lock-in and food drive, CLOW at 11 a.m. and Girl Scouts at 3 p.m.

UM activities planned

The following events are coming up at Aurora United Methodist Church: Feb. 16 -- adult Sunday school at 9:15 a.m., worship at 10:30, youth fellowship at noon and Alpha Bible study at 2 p.m.; Feb. 17 -- teen work day at the church at 10 a.m.; Feb. 18 -- men's study at the church at 7 p.m. and praise team rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.

3-H women will meet

The 3-H Evening group at the Church in Aurora will meet Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. to talk about Chapters 11-12 of Billy Graham's book "The Holy Spirit." The group will turn in collected prayer blankets to 3-H next month.

The Women's Guild meets today (Feb. 12) at 11:30 a.m. in fellowship hall to see Maddi Sprague portray Rosa Parks.

The church, along with Ohio Lady of Perpetual Help, raised $3,200 for this year's work camp trips from the Super Bowl sub/bake sales. Subway at Aurora Farms Premium Outlets and Orlando Bakery made major donations.
