Jean (Donnet) and David Wright of Cuyahoga Falls celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a small family party on July 3.
The couple both graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School, where David (known as "Big Dave" at 6'6'') was the center on the basketball team.
On July 3, 1953, with his parents' blessing, Dave borrowed his father's car and he and Jean eloped (along with another couple) to be married in Angola, Ind.
After serving in the U.S. Navy stateside during the Korean War, Dave and Jean returned to Ohio, built their first home in Cuyahoga Falls and eventually raised five children: Catherine (and Donald) Ertley of Lancaster, Pa., Jennifer (and James) Tapp of Cape Coral, Fla., Rebecca (and Ransel) Yoho of Cuyahoga Falls, Sarah (and James) Jewett of Munroe Falls, and David (and Holly) Wright of Cuyahoga Falls. They have 12 grandchildren.
Dave worked as a draftsman/designer at Lockheed Martin (formerly Goodyear Aerospace), retiring in 1996 after 42 years of service. Jean was a stay-at-home mother and a seamstress.
The two have been members of the The Chapel in Akron for 35 years.
