Gust and Aliki (Stamoulis) Kanarios of Tallmadge marked their 50th wedding anniversary April 14, 2016.

The couple was married in their homeland of Athens, Greece, in 1966.

Gust brought his wife; her two daughters, Eva Kanarios (Mixalis) Chios of Greece and Niki Galatoulas (Konstantinos) of Tallmadge; along with his in-laws, Nikolas and Evridiki Stamoulas to Akron.

The couple were soon blessed with the birth of twin sons, Angelo (Olympia) Kanarios of Boca Raton, Fla., and Michael (Amy) Kanarios of Detroit, Mich., as well as grandchildren Elpiniki, Aliki, Pantelis, Nicholas, Connor, Kellen, Constantine and Evangeline and great-grandson, Fotis.

Gust provided for the family by originally working at Nick Anthe's Restaurant, and later opened Gus's Chalet restaurant on Tallmadge Avenue in Akron. After 40 years, Gust retired and closed Gus's Chalet in 2014.

Aliki and Gust attend the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Akron where they are members of various organizations including AHEPA and Philoptochos. They travel to Greece, Michigan and Florida often to visit family and friends.

Plans to celebrate the couple's golden anniversary are set for later this spring.
