Annual egg show at Our Lady of the Elms

The 42nd annual Elegant Egg show will take place at a new location this year.

The show, hosted by the Ohio Egg Artists Guild, will be April 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and April 13 from noon to 5 p.m., at Our Lady of the Elms, 1375 W. Exchange St. in Akron.

Egg decorating classes will be offered both Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. for $15. The classes are $15, and are for ages 10 through adult. Reservations are required.

The opening exhibition and winner's awards reception for FOCUS 2014 will be at Solon Community Center, 35000 Portz Parkway in Solon, on April 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. FOCUS 2014 will feature approximately 200 photos by amateur and seasoned/professional photographers. Awards will be presented that evening and refreshments will be served. The opening exhibition is free and open to the public.

The Best of Show and Category Winners will be displayed at Solon Center for the Arts or the Beck Center for the Arts. Community Choice Photo Winners will be displayed at the local libraries of each Partnering Community including Aurora, Brecksville, Lakewood, Solon, Streetsboro and Twinsburg.

Following the opening exhibition, select photos will be exhibited at the host galleries. Closing host gallery receptions will take place at The Beck Center for the Arts on May 29 and at Solon Center for the Arts on May 30. Both closing receptions are from 6 to 7 p.m.

Verb Ballet

performs 'Carnival of the Animals'

The Children's Concert Society will present Verb Ballet at the Akron Civic Theatre April 9 and 10.

The ballet company will perform a new interpretation of the ballet 'The Carnival Of The Animals." Shows are at 9:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. each day. The ballet, choreographed by Richard Dickinson, tells the story of the cuckoo bird who is made fun of by the different animals.

Master Singers Inc. perform Palm Sunday

The Master Singers Inc. Chorale will perform April 13 at the Saint Santislaus Church in Cleveland, starting at 3 p.m.

The chorale will present a concert of several Stabat Maters and a Miserere written by composer's Metheney, Fresi, Schubert, Garau, Zoborovski, Rheinberger and Real.

Saint Stanislaus Church is in Slavic Village at 3649 E. 65th Street in Cleveland. The performance will be conducted by MSI founder and artistic director J.D. Goddard, with accompanist Ken Zach and guest organist Christopher Toth.

UU Women in Action host art show

The UU Women in Action will present a group exhibition of Unitarian Universalist artists. The UUWA's Inaugural Spring Art Show exhibit will run April 10 through 27, with an opening reception and silent auction on April 10 at 7 p.m.

Seventeen local artists will be featured in the show: Mary Ann Ballinger, Joan Brasaemle, Rebekah Benner, Jane Bond, Mary Caesar, Carol Dobbins, Patty Harding, Deb Johnson, Barbara Kemper, Deb Lemire, Gail Lindsay, Kim Mosyjowski, Barbara Pearce, Emory Smith, Julie Whitmore, Laurel Winters and Susan Wynn. Through a wide range of mediums, each artists brings Spring to life with color and texture. The pieces include glass, textile, photography, jewelry, ceramic, metal work and more.

"I am thrilled to help bring this collection of artwork to our community," says curator Carol Dobbins of Hawksview Pottery and Gallery, "The timing couldn't be better. We've waited for Spring long enough!"

The April 10 reception will include hors d'oueveres, music and a silent auction of pieces donated by participating artists. Auction proceeds will benefit the programs of The Unitarian Universalist Women's Association working to serve the social and spiritual needs of people through fellowship, group expression, educational programs, service and action.

Watercolor topic of next HSA meeting

The next meeting of the Hudson Society of Artists is April 7 at 7:30 p.m.

The guest artist is Chris Leeper, past president of the Ohio Watercolor Society, book illustrator and author of "Realism in Water Media." Leeper will give a watercolor demonstration.

Meetings are at the Barlow Community Center, 41 S. Oviatt St. in Hudson on the first and third Mondays of the month at 7:30 p.m. Visitors are always welcome to the meetings which include demonstrations, talks and critiques. Annual artisan fair at Hower House

Hower House's 16th annual Artisan Fair will be April 11 and 12 at the historic Victorian mansion.

Eighteen artisans will be selling their handcrafted goods throughout the

rooms of the mansion for this juried show. An eclectic mix of artisan designed beads

and jewelry, antique smalls, soaps/lotions/botanicals, teas, chocolates and gourmet

bakery items, metal garden art, pressed flower art, painted woodcrafts, vintage linens,

whimsical pottery, textiles and more are available to shoppers. Several new artisans

this year along with some returning favorites add to the festivities.

The fair will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 11, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 12.

Admission is $4; half price admission is available from 4 to 7 p.m. on April 11.

Also featured Friday evening will be the "Gnibbles & Gnosh" wine tasting on Friday evening, 4 to 7 p.m. Per glass pricing includes light hors d'oeuvres, a glass of local wine and shopping until 7 p.m.; the wine reception is for guests 21 and older.

Hudson site for International Festival

The Merchants of Hudson once again will bring the International Festival to Hudson April 10 through April 13.

During this time, participants will get a passport from one of the more than 30 businesses who are representing their selected country with store decorations, music, flags, maps, On April 10, the Opening Ceremony with start 5 p.m. at the Hudson Public Library with a proclamation by Mayor William Currin followed by a parade of flags and international costumes. Students and parents are encouraged to come out and join the parade. On April 11 from 5 to 8 p.m., participants can shop the streets while enjoying tastings of food and beverages from host countries.

Run for the Children is April 12. The kid's one mile kicks off at 8:30 a.m. followed by a 5K at 9 a.m. at Seton Catholic School and Hudson Springs Park.

There will be a grand prize drawing April 13 for those who visit all participating countries and turn in their completed passport. Prizes will also be available for those who visit more than 15 countries.

ETC School of Musical Arts 36th Annual Spring Gala

ETC School of Musical Arts presents the 36th annual Spring Gala on April 6, 2014 beginning at 3 p.m. at Cuyahoga Falls High School, 2300 4th St. in Cuyahoga Falls.

This season ending event will feature major award winning performances from ETC's high school group "The All Americans" winners of four second place finishes and a Grand Championship. "The Main Street Singers" winner of three Grand Championships in the middle school divisions and its brand new all girls group "Rouge" winning their class division in their very first competition this year. "The New Generation" will be traveling to Cedar Point in May to compete in their annual competition and sure to bring home excellent and superior awards.
