The Western Reserve Community Band opens its 17th season with a Spring Concert featuring music from Broadway and the movies.

This free concert is presented at 7:30 p.m. on April 5 in the Hudson Middle School Auditorium, at 77 North Oviatt St. in Hudson.

For this concert, the band has invited its neighbors from the south, the Sto Notes vocal ensemble, to join the program singing with the band on three arrangements. Vocal soloists MJ Lehman and Brian Suntken will also be featured on the program, each singing a solo and doing a duet.

Seven decades of Broadway music from "Porgy and Bess" (1935), "Brigadoon" (1947), "Oklahoma" (1943), "Carousel" (1945), "West Side Story" (1957), "Cabaret" (1966), "Oliver" (1963), "Fiddler on the Roof" (1963), "Funny Girl" (1964), "A Little Night Music" (1973), "Rent" (1996), "Jekyll & Hyde" (1997), "Beauty and the Beast" (1994), "Lion King" (1997), "Les Misrables" (1987), "Wicked" (2003) and "The Producers" (2001) will fill the evening. Movie music includes Highlights from "Wizard of Oz" (1939) by Harold Arlen & Yip Harburg and "Raiders March" (1981) by the 5 time Academy Award winning composer John Williams.

Membership in the band is offered to the community through the Hudson Community Education & Recreation program.
