Aurora theater seeks actors for musical

Aurora Community Theatre seeks enthusiastic performers to play Apostles in its upcoming musical, "Jesus Christ Superstar," music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Tim Rice

Choruses present

joint concert

The combined choruses of the Chagrin Valley Choral Union and the Masters Singers Inc. Chorale of Northeast Ohio will perform a Memorial Concert dedicated to the memory of Mary E. Kucera at 3 p.m. on April 14 at the Shrine Church of Saint Stanislaus in Slavic Village, Cleveland.

The program will consist of the World Premier of "For Love is Born of God," composed by John R. Petrone, PhD with lyrics by Michelle Margaret Benjamin Walker and "Requiem" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Directed by J. D. Goddard, this 100 person ensemble will be accompanied by a full orchestra with guest soloists Marian Vogel, soprano, Joanne Uniatowski, alto, J.R. Fralicki, tenor, and Brian Johnson, baritone.

Both the Chagrin Valley Choral Union and the Master Singers Inc are non-auditioned community chorales. They can be heard on YouTube and Facebook.

Dessert Extravaganza returns to library

Join the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library Foundation for an evening of gourmet desserts and sweet silent auctions April 18 at 7 p.m. at Roses Run Country Club in Stow. Tickets are $30 each and are available in the library's lobby.

This annual fundraiser allows the library to complete important improvements and renovations.

Dessert Extravaganza gives guest a chance to sample signature deserts and appetizers from the area's restaurants and bakeries, including Bittersweet's Chocolate and Pastry, Custom Cake Creations, DeVitis Italian Market, Dipped & Dazzled Bakery, Handel's Homemade Ice Cream, Jenni's Desserts for Kirbie's Family Meats and Catering, Lager & Vine Gastropub and Wine Bar, Linda's Kitchen, Main Street Cupcakes, Old Carolina Barbecue, Olive My Heart, Pancho & Lefty's, Rosewood Grill, Sweet Tooth and more. Silent auctions throughout the evening feature art, golf and spa packages, and local services. Abshire & Haylan have donated a piece of jewelry to be raffled off during the evening.

Artisan Fair

at Hower House

Hower House's annual Artisan Fair, presented by the Victorians of Hower House, will take place April 12 and 13.

Hours on April 12 are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on April 13 are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Vintage and antique smalls, delectable chocolates, artisan designed beads, jewelry & accessories, gourmet bakery items, soaps/lotions, pressed flower art, textiles, as well as many other handcrafted items throughout the mansion will be featured.

Returning this year will be free Antique Smalls Appraisals (1800s - 1930s) from 1 to 3 p.m. both days; one item per person.

Admission is $5; there will be a BOGO offer from 4 to 6 p.m. April 12. Guided tours will not be available during the fair.

Also on April 12, from 4 to 7 p.m., Hower House will host a "Gnibbles & Gnosh." The cost is $20, which includes two wine tastings, light snacks, admission to the fair, a raffle ticket and guitar music by Rick Kalister. Tickets are limited and only for those 21 and older.

Actors needed

for residency program

Great Lakes Theater announces auditions for non-Equity actor/teachers for its School Residency Program for the 2013-14 school year. Actors of all cultural backgrounds are encouraged to audition. These are full-time, seasonal, paid positions, offered from August/September 2013 through May 2014.

Requirements include an undergraduate degree in any discipline, as well as previous stage experience or actor training. Teaching experience or prior work with elementary, junior high or high school age students a plus, but not required. Applicant must have use of a reliable automobile.

Applicants are requested to prepare one Shakespearean monologue and one contrasting contemporary monologue for the audition. Both monologues should total no more than three minutes combined.
