ensemble to perform at Ludwig Recital Hall

Medieval music ensemble Bernardus will perform "The Eternal Flame: Visions of Love Throughout the Medieval World" on Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in Ludwig Recital Hall, located in the Music and Speech Building on the Kent Campus.

This program offers a look at how medieval citizens expressed the various emotions and forms of love, both sacred and secular. The repertoire includes troubadour song, art images and poetic readings to illustrate love and passion among the lives of courtiers, troubadours and crusaders.

Art academy seeks young artists

for show

Young artists who have participated with Peninsula Art Academy in any way -- in a class, entering python day, etc -- are invited to participate in their own gallery show, which will be exhibited March 2 through 16.

There also will be a party March 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. in connection with the exhibit.

Entry fee $5 for two entries, or more if space permits. Bring artwork to PAA between Feb. 24 and 28 during regular gallery hours, Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., or call 330-657-2248 to make other arrangements. Visit online for details.

Derbytown Chorus

The Akron Derbytown Chorus is offering singing telegrams for Valetine's Day on Feb. 14 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

A local Barbershop quartet will travel to a home, a workplace or another location to perform two classic love songs, and will deliver a rose and a card. Prices range from $39 to $59.

Children's museum hosts Presidents'

Day activity

Children can explore history in a whole new way at The Children's Museum of Cleveland with special presidential programming on Feb. 18. At noon, children can make Stove Pipe hats and beards ($1 supply fee required) in honor of Abraham Lincoln. At 3 p.m., answer the question "What is a President?" and then re-create Presidential Portraits using paint by numbers (included free with paid admission or Museum membership).

The Children's Museum is at 10730 Euclid Avenue in University Circle. The Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Regular admission is $7 for children and adults; infants 11 months and under and CMC members enter free.

French Market

WITAN'S 36th annual French Market will take place Feb. 22 and 23 at Todaro's Party Center.

Todaro's is at 1820 Akron-Peninsula Road in Akron.

The French Market is a juried arts and crafts show where shoppers will enjoy the talents of more than 45 artisans and craftsmen from Ohio and neighboring states.

The annual French Market benefits WITAN'S Community Project Fund, which provides grant money and allocations for numerous non-profit organizations and services. Two of WITAN's beneficiaries for 2012 included Good Neighbors (to replenish food pantries) and Faith Promise (for homeless families).

WITAN'S French Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $6 at the door.
