Cuyahoga Falls -- A cold-weather event that was born during the city's bicentennial lives again as the second annual Frozen River Festival will take place Jan. 18-20 at Falls River Square.

Hosted by the city and sponsored by the Gardens of Western Reserve Assisted Living Residence, Frozen River Festival will feature ice carvings by University of Akron Culinary Arts students all weekend at the ice skating rink.

In addition to viewing art carved from blocks of ice, festival-goers can stop by the Pavilion at the rink on Jan. 18 and Jan. 19 to sample Thirsty Dog's Cuyahoga Falls Bicentennial Ale and Sarah's Vineyard specialty wines. Also in the Pavilion on Jan. 18 and Jan. 19 will be a variety of vendors selling boutique items and snacks and pastries perfectly paired for beer and wine. Sundays events are outdoors only.

Frozen River Festival times are 6-9 p.m. Jan. 18, 2-9 p.m. Jan. 19 and 1-5 p.m. Jan. 20 (outside only).

On Jan. 19, the ice rink welcomes Kent State University students as they perform a special show on the ice at 3 p.m.

Admission to this event is free. Normal skating admission and skate rental fees apply. Visit for more information or call the Development Department at 330-971-8135.
