Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, in partnership with The Ohio Shakespeare Festival, announces its summer season of Shakespeare and musical theater under the stars on the grounds of the historic country estate.

This year's offerings include Shakespeare's "A Comedy of Errors" and "Othello," as well as the musical "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." All performances begin at 8 p.m., and the two Shakespeare productions also include a "greenshow" at 7:30 p.m. -- a pre-performance opening act and time-honored tradition in Shakespearean theater. Tickets are now on sale, with special ticket packages available.

Best Little Whorehouse

Based on the true story of the Chicken Ranch; "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" is a bawdy, rollicking musical that finds the ladies at the popular Texas brothel surprised when a flamboyant television personality tries to shut them down. Performances of "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" are June 29 and 30, and July 1, and July 5 through 8 and 12 through 14.

Because of language and content parental guidance is suggested in the case of children under the age of 13.

Comedy of Errors

First performed in 1594, "A Comedy of Errors" is one of Shakespeare's earliest and funniest plays and takes place in the city of Ephesus. Identical twin brothers, separated in infancy are, unbeknownst to each other, in the same town. Adding to the confusion are their identical twin-brother servants, who also don't know that they are in the same town at the same time.

Performances of "A Comedy of Errors" are July 20 through 22, 26 through 29, and Aug. 2 through 4.

Othello

"Othello," Shakespeare's play about love turned bad by unfounded jealousy, is one of Shakespeare's four great tragedies and was first performed in 1604. The Moor, Othello and Iago are central to this play that examines the disparity between appearance and reality as well as the themes of trust, honor and reputation.

Performances of "Othello" are Aug. 10 through 12, and 16 through 18.
