The Rev. Deborah T. Rankin
Occupation: Priest at St. John's Episcopal Church, Cuyahoga Falls.
How long have you worked in Cuyahoga Falls? Four weeks.
How would you describe the Cuyahoga Falls area to someone who has never been here? Cuyahoga Falls is an exciting place to live because there seems to be a lot of interest in the promotion of personal and communal health.
What is your favorite activity in Cuyahoga Falls? Church. I had to say that, but I love Sunday morning. Meeting people, composing the service and the sermon. I feel like a Mom at Thanksgiving every week. It's a big production and I love doing it.
Hobbies/Interests: I sing in the choir, and really like to plan artistic displays for special occasions like Pentecost. I really like visiting people, hearing their stories and learning about the community through them.
What is the last book you read? The last book we read in a book club before I moved here was "My Sister's Keeper," about a young woman who was used by her family for blood components and later a kidney to treat her sick sister.
What would you do if you were mayor for a day? I would ask everyone I met what their dream for Cuyahoga Falls is, and what they were prepared to do to make it happen. I would listen and take it all in, then write about what I heard.
What is your biggest accomplishment? Being a mom. I believe in doing the basic stuff really well.
Whom do you most admire (excluding relatives)? Kay Almond who is a Methodist minister and was my spiritual director. She has deep springs of faith.
Something most people don't know about me is ... I am from Victoria, Texas.
