Occupation: Art teacher
How long have you lived/ worked in Cuyahoga Falls?
This is my sixth year of teaching here in the Cuyahoga Falls City Schools District.
How would you describe the Cuyahoga Falls area to someone who has never been here? Hardworking and friendly people are the best part of Cuyahoga Falls.
To support this asset, the city offers caring schools and many great recreational facilities and activities that bring together the community and give the city a small town feel.
What is your favorite activity in Cuyahoga Falls? My favorite activity has to be the downtown festivals. I enjoy the gathering of friends and families in an atmosphere of fun, food and creativity.
Hobbies/Interests: My hobbies and interests center mainly around the arts. For the creating of my personal art work I use many forms of media including clay, wood, textiles, found objects and more. I also enjoy collaborating with my husband on screen printing projects and riding my scooter.
What is the last book you read? "Freakonomics" by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner.
What would you do if you were mayor for a day? I would have a meeting of the city's artists to design and plan for the construction of a monument. This proud monument would be to honor the many fallen soldiers from the city of Cuyahoga Falls involved in the Iraq conflict.
Then, on a lighter note, we would discuss the formation of Cuyahoga Falls' first magnet school for the arts.
What is your biggest accomplishment? Fulfilling my ambition to have my own art exhibition and earning a master's degree. This accomplishment was then highlighted by recognition from an art agent who is now showing one of my works across the country.
Whom do you most admire (excluding relatives)? The many teachers and mentors that have made a great impression on my life. They encouraged a love for learning, taught me to embrace creativity, believed in me and gave instructions on how hard work and determination makes goals obtainable. Thanks to all of them I was inspired to pass down these teachings to my students.
Something most people don't know about me is ... that I enjoy home improvement projects, especially if I get to use power tools. A nail gun can be a girl's best friend.
