STOW — Only a handful of firefighters remained on scene this morning after a late-night fire destroyed the Wendy’s on Graham Road Tuesday. A gaping hole was visible in one side of the building, which had a collapsed roof. Every window in the building had been broken and the parking lot was covered in ice from the previous evening’s efforts to extinguish the blaze, with which multiple fire departments had been called to assist.

Stow Fire Chief Mark Stone said the fire at 1051 Graham Road was reported at 10:33 p.m. Tuesday night.

“It’s pretty significant. The building’s a total loss,” Stone said Wednesday morning. No flames were seen outside the building at the time of arrival, but firefighters reported smoke inside.

He said the restaurant had been open at the time of the fire, but there were no injuries.

“When we arrived on scene, there was no one inside. They had already evacuated,” he said.

Stone said the fire is under investigation, but the fire’s origin is uncertain and the cause is as yet unknown.

The Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, and Munroe Falls fire departments provided mutual aid. Stone said firefighters were still putting out hot spots this morning.

Stone said the cold weather caused water to freeze and the Stow and Cuyahoga Falls street departments assisted by spreading salt to control the ice.
