As he prepares to step away from Congress, U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi is refunding campaign contributions given to him this year.

The Genoa Township Republican announced Oct. 19 that he would step down from his House seat by the end of January to take over as president of the Ohio Business Roundtable.

Now, a letter from Kristen Frissora, his campaign manager and treasurer, is informing donors that Tiberi has elected to refund contributions made toward the 2018 primary election. The letters include enclosed checks.

"We are refunding some contributions from this year beyond what is required," Frissora said. "Congressman Tiberi thought it was the right thing to do."

Tiberi is required to return contributions for the general election, but not the primary.

The refunds are still a work in progress, Frissora said, so she did not disclose how much is being returned. The full accounting will be revealed in the next campaign-finance filing with the Federal Election Commission.
