in aviation academy
Space is available in the week-long Aviation Career Exploration Academy for incoming 10th-, 11th- and 12th-graders from Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Kent, Stow-Munroe Falls, Tallmadge and Woodridge.
In addition to a "flyover" at the Kent State University airport, each day students tour an aviation-related worksite to talk to professionals and hear about careers in the airlines, government, military and airport management.
This opportunity is available thanks to a partnership between the Six District Educational Compact and Kent State University's College of Technology Division of Aeronautics.
Offered from June 11 to 15, students will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at KSU's Van Deusen Hall. The cost is $175, which includes speakers, instruction, bus transportation, visits, "flyover" and a T-shirt. Seats are still available. Contact high school guidance offices or call the Compact office at 330-655-2247 for more information.
"Kent State is one of a select group of universities with its own airport. Aviation is the most popular major in the School of Technology," explained Dr. Isaac Richmond Nettey, director of aeronautics at KSU. "This is an outstanding way to introduce 10th-, 11th- and 12th-graders to the exciting world of aviation, so they can see for themselves the kind of careers open to them in the 21st century."
The Six District Educational Compact provides career programs, services and resources for Stow-Munroe Falls, Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Kent, Tallmadge and Woodridge school districts.
